First Rose Queen Event since 1950

Last July saw the first coronation of the Halewood Rose Queen since 1950, that's when it was last held during the Halewood Village Fete.
It has been revived by Joan Grace as part of the Halewood Festival, and sponsored by this Association and Eli Lilly (Speke Operations)
The Rose Queen was Rebbeca  Hughes aged 11,   the V.I.P Guest of honour was Mrs Mary Nicholson, a client of St Mary's Day Care Centre and a resident of Halewood,  it was her 101st year.

The Association was, as always, involved in the Festival, our vice-chair Liz Owen was on the committee and involved in running a stall.
Our chairman, Ron Sinclair was also participating with his guide dogs for the blind fund raising stall, he and his partner Joan are puppy trainers for the G.D.B.

Other activities we were involved in on your behalf

Higher Road Roundabout
We are pleased with our involvement in the cleaning up and improved safety of the roundabout on Higher Road which has now been made a little safer for drivers who can now see over the island and oncoming traffic.

We were also instrumental in putting our support behind residents around the petrol station on Higher Road preventing the petrol station getting approval for an extention on their liquer license passed, it was denied by the Borough Council.

Also our involvement in the campaign over Ravenscourt Precinct Regeneration.  after 5 long years of campaigning the new shopping facility is in sight, already the Old Library and the Leather Bottle have been demolished.   Aldi have been given the contract for the new build.
We are at present pursuing the possibility of a two day open market on the sight of the old library, we have raised it with both Town and Borough Councils and it looks favourable, we will know more after the next council meeting on Thursday 21st Jan 10.
